This article analyzes the conceptual evolution of “Information Society” from the work of Norbert Wiener and Claude Shannon, in the 1940s, to the analyses of Manuel Castells in “The Rise of the Network Society”. The author highlights the difficulties to define and measure the contributions of the technological advancement in the economic and social sphere, showing the way many of the viewpoints on the subject are permeated with technological determinism, which insists on denying or disguising the depth of contradictions of global capitalism in the late 20th century and in the early 21st century.
O artigo analisa a evolução conceitual da “Sociedade da Informação” desde os trabalhos de Norbert Wiener e Claude Shannon, na década de 40, até as análises de Manuel Castells em A Sociedade em Rede. O autor destaca as dificuldades para definir e mensurar as contribuições do avanço tecnológico na esfera econômica e social, mostrando como muitas das visões sobre o assunto estão impregnadas de um determinismo tecnológico que insiste em negar ou disfarçar o aprofundamento das contradições do capitalismo global no final do século XX e início de século XXI.. |
